Kiyomi Kubo was born in Japan where her interest in art began as a young child. She worked as a graphic artist in Japan before moving to America with her husband. After raising 3 children, she decided to concentrate on developing her art and went back to school to further her career. She graduated from California College of Arts with a fine arts degree.

She believes that the art should be as an expression of her feelings. She likes to experiment with bright colors and patterns. She especially likes to convey a sense of “rhythm” with her paintings. She uses forms and colors that complement and contrast each other, resulting in a painting that is in harmony. Kiyomi uses various media such as monoprint, acrylic and oil paint.

Her inspiration comes from various experiences in her life, travels around the world, as well as what she is feeling at the moment. She lets her heart and mind be free and let the painting take its own shape. She feels that the canvas is a “playground”, a place to experiment with colors and form. She challenges herself by not planning ahead and integrating “accidents” in the painting.

Her work can be seen in various art galleries and studios around the Bay Area.
